An Early Prairie Tobacco Bag, possibly Otoe, Ca. 1860

This is a rare pipe bag from the prairie region, most likely Otoe or Kansa, dating from the 1860s. A classic prairie style tobacco bag with floral beadwork in white heart red, two shades of green, pink two shades of blue and “pumpkin”. Made of thin native tanned hide, possibly antelope, the side seam trimmed with black cloth. Fringe on the side and bottom. A fine, early example of a hard to find style of bag. Overall length: 18 inches
